Some of us who practice Two Way Prayer have found it a simple way of coming together as a group for a meaningful form of worship. Keeping it to about 30 minutes and integrating contemplative music and prayers seems to work best, but there really are no hard and fast rules.

Samples

Here are samples of weekly readings, psalms, and music for a service. Groups are encouraged to use whatever music best suit the group’s tastes. We have found carefully selected music to be an important element of each service and, if done privately and not posted on a public website, royalty rule should not apply.

BEST PRACTICES

BEST PRACTICES

Play contemplative instrumental music (Taizé, piano, guitar etc.) for 10 to 15 minutes as people join in silence

Assign a specific person in advance to read the “response”

Have the leader begin each of the three lectio responses to model a brief reflection for the group to follow

Following the closing bell some sharing among the group for a few minutes is helpful, but it’s not recommended that there be prolonged socializing

Try not to exceed the 30-minute service time so people can leave when scheduled

Reach Out if you have any questions, write us and we’ll do our best to help

This is easier to do than you may think. Find a friend or two to help share the load. You’ll be amazed before you are halfway through.
